FOCUS
On holding a facial and bodily expression through a scene.
Description
Choose a short statement that could embody a ‘life script’ or attitude such as “Nobody loves me.”, “I never met a person I didn’t like.”, “Life is just a bowl of cherries.” Then repeat that as a mantra as you do a spacewalk and send the chosen phrase to various parts of the body until the idea has ‘taken hold’ and affected your physical self and hold the feeling throughout the scene (Who, What, Where).
SIDE COACHING:
Hold it! Hold it! Let it affect your chin, your eyes, shoulders, mouth, hands, feet! Feel it in your chest!
EVALUATION
Where the basic expressions of the attitude maintained throughout the playing? Did it influence your choices or activity? Did it affect your relationship?
POINT OF OBSERVATION
Hold it! shows how attitudes and physicality translated by attitude affects character.
Hi Gary,
I love what you do. Blown away by your knowledge, kindness and love for the art.
I am an entertainer/director/choreographer/dancer/actor but have never done improv. I have been very spontaneous in live shows etc and have made people laugh. I would love your expertise in entering what you do.
Please let me know what you think I should do. Oh, and I teach physical acting. I was a former boxer and have tap danced the last 20 yrs. I recently received an MFA in Drama.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration,
joe orrach
